For the Winter Billiards season, the BSAACT Competition Rules apply, with the following sub-rules:

  1. The Winter Billiards this year will be played as games of 1 hour between players having been ‘grouped’ according to their last target. The matrix attached to these competition rules indicate the starting score of each player; these scores will change dependent on the relative skill levels of the opposing players. Example: a group (6) player would start on 10 (-90) if playing a group (1) player who would start on 90. So, the group (6) player would need to score 181 plus the net score of the group (1) player in the hour to win the game.
  2. The Team lists show each players’ group in Brackets beside their name. Players’ group will be reviewed after 5 weeks to determine if any need correction.
  3. If only 1 player attends a match from a team and a minimum of 2 players are available from the opposing team, play 2 games (the single player plays the other team’s players). The 1 player team receives only 1 point for each game won to a maximum of 2 points and the team with 2 players available has a minimum of 6 points before games are decided and receives 1 point for each game won. (see also rule after Matrix)

This over-rides the Billiards application of 1.5 of the Competition Rules for this competition only.

As there are only 2 venues available for at least the first month of competition, there will be no ‘HOME’ teams. The first named team in each draw is the Home team for that evening, no matter which teams are competing.

All matches are to commence by 7.30pm, but may start earlier by mutual consent of teams.

Competition Rules for the 2019 Winter Team Billiards competition.

Description: a competition of billiards played between two teams with time limits to determine the duration of matches. A match is made up of 4 games. Each game is played for 1 hour. Each game is between 1 player from each team.

Teams can have 2-4 players nominated. A player can play no more than 2 games in a night.

Rules: The general Rules of Billiards apply.

If a stroke has been made before the time is called, any score (or foul) from that stroke is allowed.

Set-up:          A matrix based on historic statistics has been devised to give as even a competition as possible for all players:

Recording a match:          

The ‘home’ team places the 1st. and 2nd.  players and their (group) on the scorecard;

The ‘away’ team then places all their players and their (groups) on the card.

The ‘home’ team must complete the scorecard before the match starts.

The ‘home’ team is responsible to have timers available for each table.

 

Points:          The winner of a game receives 2 points for their team.

If scores are level at the end of time each player receives 1 point.

If the losing player’s score is within 10 points of the winning score, the loser receives a single ’bonus’ for their team, which may be considered if a need arises to determine ladder positions. (positions determined by points won, then games won, then ‘bonus points’ gained.)

 

Players stay in the same group for the duration of the competition, unless a player’s results require their grouping to be re-evaluated.
