The Billiards and Snooker Association of the ACT (inc) was formed in 1948 by a group of billiards enthusiasts from two local Departments: the ACT Transport Section and the ACT Fire Brigade. Originally named the Canberra Amateur Billiards Association, regular competitions were held between the two authorities, gradually enlarging to cater for the emerging club scene in Canberra. Each year since 1948, there have been billiards and snooker competitions running in the ACT under the auspices of the BSAACT. They have traditionally been held twice each year, starting in February and again in July. The Summer and Winter competitions.
Prior to 1985, the BSAACT was affiliated with the Billiards & Snooker Association NSW, which gave the BSAACT access to national representation. In 1985 the BSAACT affiliated with the Australian Billiards and Snooker Council (ABSC), who are the governing body for the sport in Australia. They, in turn, are affiliated with the world-wide governing body, the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF).
